Fluminense Federal University

The Fluminense Federal University ((ポルトガル語:Universidade Federal Fluminense), UFF) is one of the four federally funded public universities in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and one of the Brazilian centers of excellence in teaching and research.
The university was established by federal law on December 18, 1960. It is the union of five federal colleges and three state colleges. It has about 50,000 undergraduate students, and 12,000 graduate students (2011). It has six campuses in the city of Niterói, on the southeast side of Guanabara Bay, and 12 satellite campuses in towns of the state. There are 68 undergraduate and 208 graduate (Ph.D., Master and Specialization) programs available at UFF in Natural and Social Sciences.
The word ''fluminense'' in Portuguese, from Latin ''flumen'' ("river"), is the native adjective for the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The Law School of Fluminense Federal University was founded in 1912.
The School of Medicine of Fluminense Federal University is one of the Brazilian leading schools in scientific research and article publications.
UFF holds the first undergraduate course in Film ever created in Brazil, founded by Nelson Pereira dos Santos.
== Campuses and other installations ==
Niterói (headquarter)
UFF is spread over the city of Niterói. There are three big campuses in the city: Gragoatá Campus, Praia Vermelha Campus and Valonguinho Campus, beyond other locations at the same city.
* Gragoatá Campus hosts History, Social Sciences, Psychology, Education, Language and Literature, Social Service, International Relations and Sport Science. Located at São Domingos, one of the oldest and best preserved neighborhoods in town, the campus has contributed to a change in the area. Once strictly residential, the area has restaurants, bookstores and cultural areas.
* Praia Vermelha Campus houses the courses of Agriculture and Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Oil Engineering, Production Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Engineering of Water Resources and Environment, Architecture, Physics, Geophysics, Geography and Computer Science. Some of the buildings in campus are historical and contrast with modern constructions in the area.
* Valonguinho Campus, the closest to the ferryboat station that goes to Rio de Janeiro city, the courses are Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Dentistry, Nutrition, Tourism Science, Business Administration, Accounting, Mathematics and Statistics.
Some schools and institutes are located outside campuses, such as the
* Institute of Art and Social Communication, with the courses of Film and Video Studies, Marketing, Journalism, Library Studies, Media and Cultural Production;
* School of Economics;
* Law School;
* Medical School;
* Nursing School;
* Biomedical Institute;
* Veterinary School;
* Pharmacy School; and
* Institute of Community Health at Antônio Pedro University Hospital.
The Rectory Building, also an off-campus art ''déco'' preserved building, houses most of administrative facilities, including the International Office.

Miracema: Accounting;
Nova Friburgo: Dentistry, Biomedicine and Speech-language Pathology;
Quissamã: Tourism Science;
Rio das Ostras: Computer Science, Nursery, Cultural Production, Psychology, Social Work and Production Engineering;
Santo Antônio de Pádua: Mathematics, Pedagogy and Computing;
São João de Meriti: Accounting; and
Volta Redonda: Technological Chemistry, Business Administration, Public Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Metalurgy Engineering, Agribusiness Engineering and Production Engineering.
In the North, in the state of Pará, in Amazon Forest, the campus at the city of Oriximiná offers service activities to the community and it is used as a medical research field for scholars and students.

UFF Art Center is a complex located at the Rectory Building that includes a theater, a movie theater and an art gallery. They all offer cultural activities, at a low cost, to the people of Niterói.
